The Clone Stamp is a very practical tool that enables users to sample one part of an image and then use this sample to paint over another area. It essentially allows you to rub out parts of an image, but instead of simply erasing it and leaving an empty space it is filled by whatever you’ve clicked.

A smiling face can be enhanced no end by making the teeth and the whites of the eyes gleam, as long as it’s done very subtly so the work isn’t noticed. To remove yellowing in the teeth, start by making a selection around the teeth, making sure not to include any of the lip or gum.

It’s not just adults who need skin work applied. Children can often have blotchy or reddening of the skin as a result of allergies or playing too hard! One method to even this out is to add a new layer, change its blending mode to Color and then paint over gradually with a soft brush set to 20%, building up gradually, intermittently sampling with Alt/Option from different areas of surrounding skin to prevent the colour looking too uniform.

f you have a subject where the head is turned, it’s inevitable that you’ll find some creases in the neck. The best method for removal is the Spot Healing or Healing Brush tools on a new layer, and set to Sample All Layers. Click bit by bit along the creases rather than trying to remove them in one sweep. If you get near to the edges of the neck, you’ll need to switch to the Clone Stamp tool to prevent the healing brushes dragging in areas outside the skin, which will give a discoloured area.
