The Invention of Lying, out on Blu-ray & DVD on 1st Feb, is a hilarious comedy that takes place in an alternative reality in which lying does not exist. Everyone, even politicians and advertisers, speaks the truth (and nothing but the truth). Ricky Gervais plays screenwriter Mark Bellison, who is tasked with writing a film about the 1300s entitled Black Plague. Unfortunately for him, that’s a century where “not much happened”, but that’s all about to change as he discovers lying and finds that dishonesty has its rewards.
Now, Ricky Gervais needs YOUR help to create a mind boggling poster to help him position the film as a ground breaking (and quite possible tongue in cheek) piece of cinema. You can start from scratch if you wish, or use some film artwork and stills* kindly supplied by Universal Pictures to create a unique poster and submit it to our judge…. none other than Ricky Gervais himself!
To give you a bit of inspiration we’ve even managed to get our hands on the Black Plague opening credits. It goes a little something like this:
‘On the very first day of the fourteenth century, a momentous occasion occurred. It began as a day much like any other. The sun rose, the people awoke, workers began to work, babies began to cry. But all of that was interrupted when….’
As if getting your masterpiece in front of Ricky Gervais wasn’t reward enough, we’ve also got our hands on two props from the film – a Black Plague ‘writer’ chair back and a copy of the Black Plague film script – both of which we’ll get signed by the film’s star, writer and director.
So what are you waiting for… take your seat, open the stills and create a poster to wow the world!
