I agree with Brian. The pre-set doesn't load even following the tutorial. Instruction is not complete. Very disappointing, I've spent hours trying to get this and others to load, bottom line they just don't work!

I followed the instructions as posted above and the preset loaded with no problems at all. It's a cool brush preset, Jo. Thanks for sharing. :-)

If you are having problems with using the preset, I've included a more thorough tutorial in the Tutorials section. The link is www.photoshopdaily.co.uk/tutorials/install-tool-presets

The file provided isn't a brush file – it is a tool preset. I had never used a tool preset before and thought they were quite interesting, which is why I posted this example. It was just a preset file – once loaded you still have to do the hard work of creating something! In this case it is using a brush to create a pencil effect.

I double-checked the instructions and they worked for me but please do let me know if you are having specific problems. You can email me at work (jo.cole@imagine-publishing.co.uk).

Brian - I hope you received my email regarding the email you sent me.

The install worked here, in the preset mgr., open the drop-down box and highlight "presets", then load it from where you saved the .tpl file. It loaded fine, but I have yet to experiment with it.
That should do it. (using CS4)

Exactly the same question as Mike Woolcock

the download produces a “.tpl” file but Adobe expects a “.ABR” file. It doesn’t seem to recognise the “.tpl” extension. How do you make Photoshop recognise the file.

Agreed Mike. I'm increasingly despairing of "Photoshop Creative" -- too often they just leave you in the lurch, they half explain things and seem unclear as to who their target audience is. I've been using Photoshop for years and before that, Elements, so I'm not a novice, but P'shop is so huge there are always new things to learn.

Comparied with Deke McClelland (and even free tutorial stuff on the web) PhCreat is hopelessly inadequate, and I'm fairly sure I wont be renewing my subscription after my first 6 issues.

This website (after 10 mins experience of it) so far doesn't seem much better. Like Mike, having d'l'd the file and saved it as instructed, I find nothing appears when I do as Photoshop Creative instructs me. And there's no alternative (except improvisation).

I will definitely NOT be recommending this mag to anyone I know. By the way, I wrote to the editor with my complaints but never even got the courtesy of a reply.

Cheers friends (but not the mag)

Ok I have the preset installed and selected but have no idea what to do. If I use the brush on a photo it sure doesn't show up as a sketch. Do you have a tutorial on how to use the preset?
