Easy paths

Easy paths

The Pen is great for selecting areas in an image, but the Magnetic Pen is ideal for a simple object, as it snaps to defined edges and creates paths with ease. Select the Freeform Pen and click the arrow next to the Custom Shape icon. In the Freeform Pen Options window, click the Magnetic checkbox.

I can’t begin to tell you how helpful that little trick is! I wish I had only known about it a little sooner as I’ve been using the standard pen tool or the channels selection technique for my masking up to this point.

Being a relative newcomer to this site I have been reviewing past tips and came across this one. Never noticed the magnetic pen option before and this tip is a boon for making custom shapes and brushes. What a great tip. Thanks. I learn something new about Photoshop every day. Probably be pushing up daisies long before I know everything there is to know. mmmh they may make good macro shots!
