If you are a fan of coloured pencils, check out this preset for creating the perfect effect in Photoshop. Taken from a tutorial in issue 62 of Photoshop Creative, where it was revealed how to create the image above, it will sort you out whenever you need a pencil effect.

To download the file, simply click the link below. To load the preset in Photoshop, open your tool presets folder (it’ll be named something like Adobe Photoshop>Presets>Tools). Back in PS, find the Tool presets tab, click the small arrow to access the flyout menu and click Load tool Presets…

Press ‘b’ to select the brush tool, and choose the ‘Pencil Brush’ from the Tool Presets tab. Now start your coloured pencil odyssey!

Get your hands on six high-res brushes created using a humble marker pen. All brushes are pretty decent quality but if you push them above their maximum diameter, you can get the look of marker pen that has started to bleed around the edges. We did that on the square frame surrounding the ‘6 brushes’ text in the image above.

After spending far too long on trying to decide on some wallpaper, I have found myself dreaming of patterns and swirly lines. Patterns are infinitely useful, either for adding a fancy flourish to a finished design, or becoming the major player in a project (maybe as a digital frame).
